Newborn Care
It is very common for newborns to have a mild cold,
stuffiness, and congestion. They can also have rashes
on the body and in the diaper area. They commonly have
hiccups and spitting up. Newborns can have several bowel
movements a day. The color of the stool could be yellowish or greenish in
color and it is also common not to have any bowel movements
for 2-3 days.
You must call our office
immediately if:
1. Your baby is less than 8 weeks old and the
rectal temperature is 101degrees or more.
2. Severe vomiting and/or diarrhea or blood in
the stool.
3. Purulent discharge from umbilical cord.
4. Pustules on the skin.
5. When the anterior fontanel (soft spot on head)
is bulging.
6. If the skin appears dusky.
7. Any seizure like movements.
8. Periodic breathing (when baby doesn’t breathe
for 15-20 seconds).
